Frida Southwest

Last month Ito came to visit OKC and see the house for the first time. I dragged him out to brunch with OKC’s finest!

Michael, Julianne, Ito, me, Sabah & Tove all met at Frida Southwest in the Paseo Arts District and let me tell you about their brunch…

Their mimosas were crisp and to my liking. They also had some fun other options on their brunch libations menu. Julianne and Michael were less basic than Ito and I 😋.

We started with some burrata/prosciutto with sourdough bread. Their house made biscuits were also delish.

I stuck with a simple caprese salad and their presentations just blew me away. I will say I could’ve done with a bit less oil but it was a nice touch to soften up the fried cheese.

Michael is ultimate daddy. that’s all.

To finish up we ordered a giant cinnamon bun for the table. I mean giant! Sabah’s hand for scale ^^

I’ve been waiting and wanting to try Frida Southwest for a while now and wow I should’ve gone sooner. Honestly one of the top 2 meals I’ve had in OKC.

The Winston

We decided to go out for dinner last night since the weather was so nice and it’s the last weekend before I start my new job.

We went to the Winston in Norman and sat on their patio. It was lovely 🥰

Ben and I enjoyed their garlic cheese flatbread so much we ordered it twice. The grilled cheese and tomato soup was also LEGIT. I would skip the tuna main though, it was too salty for my taste.

Just Thought You Should Know

Last night when Ben got off work we all got ready to head out for dinner. I had texted him social capital…? when he was on his way home.

We ordered our usual chicken nachos, Ben also got a fajita chicken taco but the elotes…. WOW I could eat that all day every day.

I told him when we were sat on the patio enjoying our food that it reminded me of our dates we used to have when we first met.

The thing is though, last night was so much better than the early dates. We had Tove with us, Ben drank a Topo Chico since he was driving and I had one canned wine (which got me tipsy 🤪) and we were so much more content. I didn’t feel the NEED to drink more or stay out later because I had everything that matters to me.

I’m so proud of Ben as a father and thankful he’s my partner in all of this. We’ve been through a lot together that’s tested our relationship but never once has he given me a reason to doubt his commitment to me and now us. I love you so much babe and I’m honored to give you the chance to create the most special daddy-daughter bond. I love my dad more than words can say and I just know in my heart that Tove is going to feel the same way about you. Thank you for making us feel loved and for rolling with the punches… quite literally when Tove gets at ya 😛

Haywire

Tuesday marks the end of my maternity leave so before starting work again I decided to take a trip to Dallas.

Ben and I are so lucky as parents, Tove doesn’t mind her car seat at all and she’s already a socialite at restaurants. She’s never been fussy or even attempted to make a scene so we decided to meet Taylor and her fiancé Blake for dinner on Saturday night at a restaurant called Haywire. It’s located at Legacy West in Plano and serves new American cuisine.

We had an early reservation and if the hostess hadn’t left us standing off to the side for 14 minutes while our table was ready I would have nothing but positive things to say about our experience. Taylor had booked the reservation and got us a perfect table upstairs on the patio overlooking the stage/courtyard area. We got lucky with the weather as well, so I wasn’t all hot and bothered 😅

We started with the “chefs 4” which included mini Elk tacos, queso, giant onion rings, and fried tomatoes. All of which was delicious. I’m normally not a huge fan of onion rings but man they were good.

For the main I got a lighter fare, the grilled Caesar salad and a side but Ben went for a bone in 18oz steak and he was VERY pleased with how it turned out. He was even picking the meat from the bone once he was ‘done’ eating 😅.

Next time I’m getting the snapper. Blake got it and it looked so good. Oh and definitely try the Mac and cheese at Haywire, it’s flavorful and the texture is on point.

Farm-to-Table

Following in true nerd fashion, I got my friend to come along to downtown of an area called McKinney in order to play Pokemon Go (I’m slightly obsessed). While we were there we decided to eat. This was a critical moment.. I get HANGRY, and that’s not a good look on anyone.

So we parked the car in the town square. I love it because it feels very old school Texas in this area, the court house is even in the middle of the square. Anyways, going off topic here. So we parked right in front of this local restaurant. Figured we’d look at the menu and after we decided ‘Why the hell not?’

So in we go and to be honest I was shocked. It was cozy, and felt very rustic. We sat at a secluded table and eyed the menu once again. We ordered the ribeye with bearnaise sauce (is your mouth drooling? Cause mine is!) and the serrano caesar salad.

The food was amazing. We had the peach cobbler for dessert and I don’t think I’ve ever been happier to live in Texas. My god the food was awesome.

So if you’re ever around downtown McKinney make sure to stop by Harvest. They’re a seasonal kitchen devoted to finding local ingredients. Plus its delish.
